The Legend Of Buggy Balliet

It was over 30 years ago that Dave Balliet had his life saved by a honey bee. He's spent every waking day since dedicating his life to helping these misunderstood creatures. The journey has been long and the mission continues: but this is the legend of David "Buggy" Balliet.

The Day That Changed His Life

David had always been a wild guy that lived life to its fullest. So his family and friends weren't too surprised when he decided to climb Mount Logan by himself. They told him about the risks but being the rebel he was - he set out one morning on his own.

The climb went great. He was scaling the side of the mountain free hand like a graceful goat. His next hand hold was a 6 foot horizontal leap from a ledge. As his momentum left his back foot he suddenly stumbled and fell down a steep incline. As he lay there, injured and unable to move, he knew the trouble he was in. The pain was incredible and he felt himself losing conciousness. He tried to stay awake, but he began to fade.

All of a sudden he felt a sharp pain on his arm. He looked over and saw a honey bee buzzing around him.

At first, David was terrified. He thought he was being attacked by the bee and tried to swat it away. But as he looked closer, he realized that the bee was actually trying to help him. It had stung him on purpose, injecting him with a tiny dose of adrenaline to help him stay alert and focused. He even kept his stinger!

At first, David was skeptical. "Can a bee really save my life?" he thought. But as he lay there, he began to feel a surge of energy coursing through his body. The pain in his arm subsided and he felt more alert than he had in weeks.

As he lay there, the bee continued to buzz around him, as if watching over him. David began to feel a strange connection to the insect, as if it were a guardian angel sent to protect him.

Hours passed, and David grew weaker and weaker. But the bee never left his side. It buzzed around him tirelessly, as if trying to keep him alive.

Finally, as the sun began to set, a rescue team arrived. They found David lying on the ground, his arm swollen from the bee sting. They rushed him to the hospital, where doctors were amazed by his survival.

"You're lucky to be alive," one doctor said. "It's a miracle that you survived that fall."

David knew better. He knew that he owed his life to the little honey bee that had stung him. He went home and began researching bees, learning everything he could about these amazing creatures. He even started keeping bees in his backyard, tending to their hives and harvesting their sweet honey.

From that day on, David had a new appreciation for bees. He knew that they were more than just pests or nuisances. They were powerful creatures with the ability to save lives.

And every time he tasted honey, he thought of the little bee that had saved his life. He knew that without that bee, he might not be alive today. So he made a vow to always treat bees with respect and to do everything he could to protect them.

As for the bee that had saved his life, David never forgot about it. He kept a picture of a honey bee on his desk, as a reminder of the little insect that had changed his life forever. And every time he saw a bee buzzing around a flower, he smiled, knowing that it was just doing its job – and doing it well.
